Summer of Events Continues in Wollongong

Wollongong’s summer of fun continues with plenty of great activities to keep the family entertained until the end of February.

Held as part of the It’s ON! campaign supported by Destination Wollongong and Destination NSW, the events provide a mix of cultural and sporting activity sure to appeal to all ages.

Included are:

  • Illawarra Folk Festival, January 17-20: The biggest and most diverse folk festival in New South Wales is on again at the Bulli Showgrounds. The 28th Annual Illawarra Folk Festival will feature a sensational line-up of folk, world, acoustic, Celtic, bluegrass and gypsy music, as well as poetry, dances, workshops, parades and sessions.
  • Reece Mastin’s Summer Nights Tour, January 22: To celebrate the release of his sophomore album, Beautiful Nightmare, Reece Mastin will be touring Australia as part of his Summer Nights Tour. He will be performing in Wollongong at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
  • Australia Day Aquathon, January 26: Wollongong Harbour will again host this popular event. The largest swim/run race in Australia, the 14th annual Aquathon is expected to attract more than 1800 competitors of all ages and abilities, including U23 World Champion Aaron Royle.
  • National Champions Trophy (Surf Boat Rowers), January 27: New South Wales’ cleanest beach, North Wollongong Beach is set to play host to the inaugural National Champions Trophy for Surf Boat Rowing. It’s anticipated that over 300 crews will take part in the event which will see some of the best in the country battle it out for the title.
  • Tropfest, February 17: Wollongong Botanic Gardens will be hosting one final outdoor cinema event for the year as it screens a very special, one-night only Tropfest live broadcast. Wollongong is just one of a few cities selected to screen this hotly-anticipated cinematic affair.
  • Splash n' Dash, February 23-24: From a 350-metre swim for the kids to a 2km Ocean Experience and a 5km run and walk, the 'Splash & Dash Festival' promises to be a spectacular event for all ages. Among the offerings will be a variety of fun experiences including amazing courses, prizes and giveaways, fundraising BBQ and more.
